What is an Earthship?
An Earthship is a type of passive solar house that is made of both natural and upcycled materials (such as earth-packed tires).
Earthships can be built in any part of the world, in any climate (with a permit) and still provide electricity, potable water, contained sewage treatment and sustainable food production.

Under a grove of oak and pine in our own small valley with a stream, the Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort offers a magical scene with cabins on stilts dotting the hillside.
This old camp dates from the 1930’s and we now offer private hotel style rooms, tent cabins, Hostelling International dormitories, along with group facilities, a health spa and a highly regarded restaurant.
You will encounter backpackers, young families, and outdoor adventurers from across the world in this fun and social place. All just 27 miles downstream from Yosemite Valley itself.

Rammed Earth in Tires to form structural walls is a permitted wall system in the state of California. This is a big deal as it help all future Earthship projects in California and across the country. Getting a permit for tire walls can be an issue depending what county you are in. This earthship permit sets a precedence for rammed earth tire walls as a structural wall system across the country.
We are inviting the public to participate and learn on this build. The California Earthship Builders School will take 30 students for this four week build. Students will learn all about building an earthship, catching water and solar/thermal dynamics to keep buildings comfortable.
